FAQ:
Why do I use a large amount of data?
Common causes of excessive data usage include: device software updates, automatic cloud photo and file backups, app updates and, video streaming.
If you are concerned about the costs of data usage we recommend turning off all automatic updates and cloud file backups (Icloud, Google drive, Onedrive, ect), on your devices.
It is also important to be aware how much data is used when streaming video such as movies, tv, or social media. For example:
HD 1080p Video – 3GB (Average per 60 Mins)
UHD 4K Video – 7GB (Average per 60 Mins)
Can I use Starlink with my Peplink?
Yes Starlink is compatible and integrates with Peplink routers and, It is the ideal solution for ocean crossings and remote usage, allowing for modest speeds of up to 100Mbps (download) and 25Mbps (upload).
However when within 20Km offshore you should consider using a cellular connection instead. 5G with Peplink can reach staggering speeds up to 1Gbps in or around the marina, and can reach up to 200Mbps up to 20Km offshore, all while being more cost effective than Starlink.
If you have a Starlink router you must enable bypass mode before it can be used with your Peplink system.
How to enable Starlink bypass mode?
- Connect your mobile device to the STARLINK or STINKY Wi-Fi network (no password). If you don’t see this network, reset the router (see previous FAQ above).
Note: As an alternative to Wi-Fi, you can use a laptop connected directly to the Starlink router with an Ethernet cable (for a Gen 2 router, connect via the Ethernet adapter).
- Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1. You should see “Starlink Create Network.”
- Select Enable Router Bypass Mode.

- Select Confirm.

- When you see the “Goodbye” message, you can close your browser. The Starlink router is now in Bypass mode.

Note: Your Starlink system should be tested as a standalone system before enabling Bypass mode and connecting it to either a Peplink or other third-party device.
How can I access my router settings?
- To access your router you must either connect to the device Wi-Fi (default login on bottom of router), or connect using an ethernet cable.
- Visit http://192.168.50.1 in your browser, if this doesn’t work check the bottom of the unit for a different IP address.
- login using the default credentials (username: admin , password: admin).
- You are now on the dashboard, further tutorials for configuring the router are available on the Peplink How to Handbook.
- Please be aware customer support for any configuration errors may be chargeable.
Why does my SIM not connect?
If you encounter problems with a new SIM card in your router, it is most likely 1 of 2 common issues.
- The SIM is not active or has no credit. Check with your provider to see if your plan is active, or top up your pay as you go SIM.
- Router config. There is a few steps that may be required to use your SIM in a Peplink router. Follow the steps in the above section “How can I access my router settings”, to complete the following steps.
- SIM not enabled in the router, follow this video to enable and prioritise the use of your SIM card in the router.
- SIM PIN, some SIM cards come with a pre-set pin code required for use. Check on the SIM packaging and documents to find a pin number. You can enter the SIM PIN at the bottom of the menu used in the video. Don’t forget to save your changes at the bottom.
- APN Settings, you may need the APN settings for your SIM, this can usually be found on your providers website or on documents you received with your SIM card. These settings can be changed in the menu used in the video, change “Operator Settings” to custom, enter the APN and username/password if required. Don’t forget to save your changes at the bottom
