FAQ:
Q: Why buy Starlink through Clase Connected rather than direct from Starlink?
A: Four reasons. First, the KVH + Starlink hybrid stack gives you a level of redundancy and value added services (VoIP, static IPs, OneCare) that Starlink direct doesn’t offer. Second, we sell per GB overage that Starlink has withdrawn from its direct offering. Third, we proactively monitor your usage and recommend plan changes mid cycle to save you money. Fourth, you get UK based specialist maritime support real engineers who understand vessels, not a generic helpdesk. The hardware costs the same; the service is fundamentally different.
Q: Can I use a Starlink Roam plan on my boat?
A: We don’t sell or recommend Roam for marine use. Starlink’s Roam terms are restrictive in ways that make it unsuitable for genuine vessel deployment, and using it at sea risks service interruption and warranty issues. Starlink dedicated maritime Global Priority is the correct tier for any vessel that genuinely operates on water. We’re happy to explain the differences if you’ve been quoted a Roam plan elsewhere.
Q: Can I use the Starlink Mini antenna on a boat?
A: Only at your own risk, and we don’t supply it for marine applications. The Mini is rated IP67 with 60+ mph wind resistance fine for land use, but Starlink will void the hardware warranty if it’s damaged in marine conditions, and the unit isn’t engineered for sustained salt water exposure. If you need Starlink on a small vessel, the Standard antenna is the entry point for genuine marine use; for any serious offshore work, the High Performance or Performance Gen 3 is the right choice.
Q: Where is Starlink Maritime coverage available?
A: Starlink is currently licensed in over 100 countries, with new territories added regularly. International ocean coverage is supported worldwide via Global Priority data, and territorial waters are subject to local government approval country by country. The fastest way to check coverage on a specific route is our live LEO tracking map, which shows real time satellite positions, ground station gateways, and beam coverage footprints for the entire Starlink, OneWeb, and Iridium constellations. Alternatively you can check coverage using Starlink’s official map vai link below.
Q: What happens if I exceed my monthly priority data allocation?
A: Buy your service through us and you have options Starlink direct no longer offers. We sell additional priority data per gigabyte no throttling, no forced plan upgrade, no surprises. We also actively monitor your vessel’s usage throughout the month and contact you proactively if a plan change would save money or prevent an overage. Most resellers wait for you to ask. We don’t.
Q: Do you offer installation in UK and European ports?
A: Yes. We deliver Starlink Maritime installations across UK and European commercial ports through our partner network, including pre installation survey, antenna placement guidance, and integration with existing onboard networks (Peplink routers, KVH mini VSAT, Lars Thrane GMDSS, FLIR TransponderTech systems where required). Global installations are coordinated on request. Most UK installations can be scheduled within one to two weeks of order.
Q: How quickly can I be online?
A: For straightforward installations on vessels with existing network infrastructure, we can often have you connected the same day the hardware arrives. Standard lead time from order to live service is typically three to five working days for stocked hardware, longer for the Performance Gen 3 if currently on allocation. Service plans activate within hours of registration. Tell us your vessel and timeline and we’ll give you a realistic date.
Q: What's included with KVH OneCare?
A: Every Starlink system sold through Clase Connected with a KVH plan includes KVH OneCare as standard: 24/7/365 live technical support from KVH’s global engineering team, extended hardware warranty beyond the standard Starlink term, and access to KVH’s value added services including VoIP voice lines, static public IP addresses, and integration with the KVH CommBox Edge gateway for advanced network management. It’s the difference between buying hardware and buying a managed service.
